Diary Log #9

I was in the United States on an expedition for mothmen. Having been over there, I found something that I personally had always tried to avoid. The Portentum Opus Carnival. I am not one for this type of entertainment. I believe it promotes the fetishizing of other species, particularly since it is in fact a witch who is the ringleader. Every other member in the carnival is a different species, leaving the whole thing feeling… bitter. But it's not something I completely detest and am too against. It may be a bit damaging to present other magical species as sole entertainment providers, but interest is interest sometimes. I just never wanted to encounter it myself.

For those of you who don't know, portentum means "omen" or "monstrosity" so as you can see, they're not hiding their emphasis on stereotyping their workers. They even openly perform for human audiences and refer to themselves as freak to get away with passing their natural forms for costumes. As controversial and distasteful as it is, I was still tempted to go, because I've heard it has a gargoyle, a were-tiger, and even a wendigo, among other species. Wendigos are notoriously difficult to find, but I believe it's the same as observing someone who's culture has been erased. I wish to study them as they live away from the commercialism, so I passed the opportunity up. Also, though I do not hate it per-say… I don't want to support such a thing. If anyone has however, and finds that some of my claims are inaccurate, please contact me.
